Edmund See - Dizi Teacher

Meet Edmund See, a patient and enthusiastic teacher who is dedicated to helping each student reach their full potential. Whether you’re just starting out and looking for a new hobby, or looking to be a true Dizi performer, Edmund has got you covered. He’s flexible in his teaching style and can adapt to the unique needs and goals of each student. Plus, with the ability to conduct lessons in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, you can choose to learn in whichever language you are most comfortable with. Under his guidance, Edmund will have you playing beautiful melodies on the Dizi in no time!

Edmund began his journey with the Dizi at the age of 13, when he studied at Bedok South Secondary under the guidance of renowned musician Mr. Boo Chin Kiat. Edmund’s strong foundation in the instrument led him to be active in various Chinese orchestras in his youth.

He was not just limited to playing in the school orchestra, also joining other Chinese orchestras such as in Boon Teck Community Centre, NTUC Chinese Orchestra and Soka Association’s Chinese Orchestra. He even got the chance to showcase his talents in a Dizi solo during a concert at Singapore Conference Hall.

During his 2 years of national service, Edmund was selected to join the SAF Chinese Orchestra under the baton of Maj Tay Soon Huat and was given many opportunities to participate in various opera performances and the Orchestra’s annual concert.

However, Edmund didn’t stop there; he went on to further master his Dizi technique under the teaching of Mr. Zhan Yong Ming (China’s first grade Dizi Master) and obtained a Grade 9 Dizi  certification from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in 1998.

In 2000, Edmund successfully joined the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) as a full-time Dizi musician. With the SCO, he travelled to various countries in Europe and China for Music Exchange programs. That same year, he started teaching at various Primary/Secondary/Junior College and Community Centers.

From 2009 to 2012, Edmund served as a Dizi instructor with Marsiling Community Club Chinese Orchestra and was involved in their annual concert performances.

Currently, Edmund is a dedicated music instructor at several schools, such as Jurongville Secondary, Hong Wen School, Tampines Meridian JC and Bukit Batok Secondary. He has even received a Distinction Award in the past Singapore Youth Festival (SYF).

With decades of valuable experience teaching and guiding others, Edmund is definitely a valuable asset to the teaching team here at Eight Tones.
